About

Hi there, I’m Eric Kohlenberg, your host of this site.

Every business runs on data, but data alone decides nothing. The real work is turning raw data into information that holds up under the weight of a decision. Tools evolve—NoSQL, machine learning, cloud-native data platforms, and now LLM-assisted analytics—yet the fundamentals endure: sound modeling, disciplined architecture, and a clear line from source to insight. This site is about applying those fundamentals well.

My background spans data warehousing, energy trading and risk management (ETRM), and solution architecture. I’ve built and advised on systems that have to be right—where a miscounted hour or a broken workflow isn’t an abstraction but a production incident. That perspective shapes what I write here: not theory for its own sake, but principles tested against real engagements and real constraints.

The work ranges from data modeling and warehouse design to the surrounding craft—governance and the challenge of shadow IT, compliance frameworks like SOC 2, modern deployment stacks, and the architecture decisions that determine whether a solution lasts. Whatever the topic, the throughline is the same: improving the discipline of building data solutions that earn trust.

The material here has accumulated over years of projects and client work, and it keeps evolving. Every new engagement sharpens both the science and the craft.
